MUS. 2001. liniu. hfzrhzgnn, 173:I-54, fzgs. 1-12.-Thr phylogcrlctic relationships among gekko and pygopod lizards arr investigated. T h e most parsimonious hypothesis contains srvel-a1 well-corroborated tladcs. 1-wcnty-seven synapomorphies rhararterizr the group gckkos + pygopods. Eublrpharines rrprcsent the most primitive linragc, and its sister-group is diagnosecl by four shared derived features. T h u s , gckkos arr n o longer consiclrred a monophylctic assemblage. Tllc sister-group relationship between diplodactylines a r ~ d pygopods is based o n ;I single apomorphy, :I rnratal closure muscle that encircles or nearly crrcircles the rxterr~al auciitol-y rnratus. T h e majority of grkkosgekkonirles and sphaerodactylines-form a n assemblage diagnosrd by tour apemorphies, with thc genus Tert~torcincus being the sis~er-lineage to all others. Sphaelodactylines and the gcnus Pristurus corrstitu~e ;t group which is set apart by six synapomorplries. Prlslurus and Gontctodes are sistcr-taxa, in that ortier, to the remaining sph;lerodactylincs. T h e absence of the second cer;~tobr.anchial arch di;ignoses a large group o f gckkonines, mostly Afl-ican in distribution. A strictly monophylctic classititation is proposed, and thr phylogmctichypothesis o n which it is founded is cotlsistrtlt with sever;ll major rverlts in the brr;tkup of

Species Limits, Phylogenetic Relationships, and Origins of Viviparity in the Scalaris Complex of the Lizard Genus Sceloporus (Phrynosomatidae: Sauria)
We electrophoretically assayed 32 gene loci in the Sceloporus scalaris complex. We sampled 208 animals from 22 localities representing the following: Sceloporus aeneus (12 localities), S. bicanthalis (five localities), S. chaneyi (one locality), S. goldmani (one locality), and S. scalaris samcolemani (two localities), and we used Sceloporus parvus and S. variabilis as outgroups. Of the 32 gene ...

Entomelas duellmani n. sp. (Rhabditida: Rhabdiasidae) from the lungs and Skrjabinodon cortagoensis n. sp. (Oxyurida: Pharyngodonidae) from the intestines of Mesaspis monticola (Sauria: Anguidae) are described and illustrated. E. duellmani is the sixth species assigned to the genus and is the third species described from the Western Hemisphere. It is easily separated from other neotropical speci...
متن کاملA new species of the genus Tropiocolotes Peters, 1880 from western Iran (Squamata: Sauria: Gekkonidae).
The genus Tropiocolotes comprises small, naked toed, ground dwelling and nocturnal desert geckos, ranging from Morocco and Mauritania in northern Africa to south and central Arabia as well as coastal Iran. Herein, we describe a new species of the genus Tropiocolotes from western Iran based on five specimens from Nayband region. This new taxon is described with a statistical approach based on 34...

Two new species of large geckos in the genus Goniurosaurus are described based on specimens collected from karst areas of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, southern China: Goniurosaurus kadoorieorum sp. nov. and Goniurosaurus kwangsiensis sp. nov. Data on natural history of the new species are provided, as well as discussions on the current conservation status of Goniurosaurus species in southe...

A new forest skink species of the genus Sphenomorphus is described from Kon Tum Plateau, southern Central Vietnam. Sphenomorphus sheai sp. nov. is similar to the other montane skink species from the Indochina region, Lygosoma veunsaiensis, Scincella apraefrontalis, Sphenomorphus tetradactylus, and Sphenomorphus tridigitus, in having a small size and the absence of external ear openings. However...
